Study on Serum Ceruloplasmin Concentration and Total Protien in Pregnant Women and Newborns

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to estimate the fetal prognostic development on the bases of the value of the maternal serum ceruloplasmin activity during pregnancy. It has been observed the serum ceruloplasmin concentration in 71 cases of pregnant women immediately before delivery and in its newborns at birth.
The pregnant women divided in to two groups; the high(A) and poor(B) socioeconomicgroup depending on the socioeconomic status.
The results thus obtained were as follows:
1. The serum ceruloplasmin concentration in the pregnant worren was higher than that in the nonpre¡©gnant women.
2. The serum ceruloplasmin concentration and the total protein in the high socioeconomic group of the pregnant women and in their newborns were significantly higher than those of poor pregnant women and their newborns respectively.
3. The serum ceruloplasmin concentration and the total protein in the pregnant women were significantly correlated to their nutritional status during pregnancy.
4. The serum ceruloplasmin concentration and the total protein in the newborns were also markedly related to their nutritional status during pregnancy.
5. There were significant correlations between both total protein and the serum ceruloplasmin concentr¡©ation of the pregnant women and those of newborns and between the fetal weight and the serum ceruloplasmin concentration of the newborns respectively.
On the basis of the above findings it suggested of that the serum ceruloplasmin activity of the pregnant women could be a prognostic index of the maternal nutrional status and of the fetal developments.
